Movies I Wish You Had Seen – Timequest

Timequest - Go find it and see it.

It’s summer, and television sucks for the moment. The eventual lull in movies with the addition of the ever-present lack of audience manners that permeates the suburban movie-plexes leads me inexorably to my DVD collection for solace. There are any number of diversions for me, some well known, others… not so much. And so, from time to time, I will bring to your attention something you may not have seen.

Good News/Bad News

Falling Skies: Destroy All Humans…Again

There was something very familiar in TNT’s pilot  Falling Skies, the new epic summer blockbuster sci-fi adventure series starring Noah Wyle. Was it the alien invasion that destroyed humanity’s way of life? Was it the advanced alien race that is enslaving humans? Was it the band of people bonded together by fate who have taken up arms to fight the invaders? Was it the band of criminals who are taking advantage of their new-found lawlessness? Because, I swear I’ve seen this show before. Read More »

Watching The Money – a Lurkers Guide to Silver Circle

Silver Circle

It’s a rare moment when the fan community gets a look at the inner workings of a film from the ground up, rarer still when they are invited into the process. It was about 3 years ago, at Boston Comic Con that I first got introduced to Pasha and Megan and their unique concept for an animated film…what would ultimately become Silver Circle. We watched them work the Con, talking up their ideas and slowly begin to gather momentum and solidify. Now, here we are 3 years later and those of us in the fan community are about to see the final reward.

Their website is aflutter with all kinds of weekly updates. You can get to their Facebook Fan Page here and they have a newsletter that you can subscribe to.  There’s lots in store for Silver Circle,  read on for highlights:

Torchwood: Miracle Day

Here is a first look sneak peek at the upcoming season. Torchwood has had an amazing under-the-radar run. The continuing story of Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper began with a 13 episode Season 1 in 2006, and continued a second season of 13 episodes in 2007. Finally came the the love-it-or-hate-it, 5 episode, mini series, Children of Earth in 2009. Then, limbo ensued after one of the highest rated mini-series the Beeb ever ran. It was an uncertain future, and for over a year the project of a possible Season 4 was the stuff of fanboy rumors worldwide.

And now, after so long a wait and countless questions and rumors, Miracle Day is almost upon us. The planted stories and not-so-subtle hints abound on all the social media and I am NOT Immune. Expectations across fandom run from feigned disinterest to barely contained exuberance.

I stand firmly in the path of BRING IT THE HELL ON!  This is a show that is so sure of its storytelling skills that it killed off all but two of its main characters by the end of Season 3. It is brave enough to take on taboos and put them in the crosshairs of the characters: Existentialism, Gender Assignment and Equity, Religion, Moral Corruption, and in Miracle Day, The Value of The Human Life.

Love it or hate it, this is a series not to be missed, and I stand firm for the return of Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper. Watch, comment, let us know what you think

Returning characters Jack and Gwen are joined on this 10 episode arc/series by such luminaries as Oswald Danes (Bill Pullman), Jilly Kitzinger (Lauren Ambrose) and Esther Drummond (Alexa Havins). The story unfolds as all across the world: nobody dies; they age, they get sick, they get hurt, but they don’t die. Man realizes resources are finite and this event is not natural, The CIA seeks answers with an agency of legend, Torchwood. The series begins on July 8th. on STARZ in the US.

Scenes From an MMORPG Pt. 1: A Noob’s Tale

Being a child of the 80s, I was fascinated with video games. Even if I didn’t have any money, I always found my way to the arcade. I was lucky enough to own an Atari 2600, and as time progressed, so did my gaming systems. As I got older, I started straying away from video games. Any console I’ve owned after the mid-1990s was gifted to me, and I only played in moderation. Read More »

Doctor Who: The Only Good Dalek Reviewed

On the heals of Amandatron3000’s post on BBC’s extermination of the Daleks, I give you another example of Dalek over-use in the hardback graphic novel Doctor Who: The Only Good Dalek. While I feel graphic novels can be used to expand and explore the vastness that is the Doctor Who universe, The Only Good Dalek falls short. Read More »
