New York Comic Con

The reason I haven’t written in a while is because I’ve been spending my time getting ready to blitz the upcoming New York Comic Con with promos for my animated project SKULLDUGGERY.  I’ve put a lot of time and effort into this cartoon series (which you can check out at www.witchesvsvampires.com), and hope to show certain producers there that SKULLDUGGERY is a fun, exciting series that would be a great addition to a network’s animation lineup.  I may even mention it once or twice in this blog… but then, that would be a conflict of interests.  Forget I said anything, okay?  Otherwise Dome will send the lawyers after me, and I’ll have to tell you all that he likes to watch dvds of ALF alone in the dark, with only a jar of Vaseline and a Stella d’Oro breadstick for company.  ‘Nuff said. Here Is What Happens When You Are Deeply Emotionally Invested In a Show

So, last night was my LAST NIGHT of appointment TV for Thursdays as the season end of Eli Stone. The shortened season had been building to this operation to remove his congenital aneurism, with a parallel story line of a man’s right to die, with all the uncomfortable subtext overlapping. In what should have been a normal episodic progression over a regular lengths season, we, as viewers, saw a speeded up character progression from all of the players. In many ways it was like watching stop motion film of a flower growing, budding and opening in the span of 2 or 3 minutes instead of a month. Read More »

On the Death of A Scream Queen

It’s hard to remember just what life was like in the 60’s. I can remember walking home in the dark after seeing a midnight showing of Night of the Living Dead and being scared out of my wits at every noise and shadow , along with my mates who were playing Macho games, being just as scared as I was. Ah, for simpler days, more innocent times. Each Horror studio had a bevy of Scream Queens, women of select and “ample” beauty, talent and the rare ability to make you jump out of your seat when they were frightened. These days all it takes is a series of camera cheats, lots of gore and skin. Yes, I wax nostalgic.  There was innocence there, something sorely lacking today, where innocence is mistakenly portrayed as naiveté, or worse ignorance and stupidity. Read More »

BattleStar Galactica, Eli Stone and The Theory of Diamonds

The Theory Of Diamonds suggests that carbon, under enough pressure, given enough time, will produce a gem of significant worth and beauty. This is a theory in large part because no one has ever seen a diamond grow…………….until now. Read More »

Television Rants and The Well Read Sci-Fi Geek!

I hate the ending of Torchwood..With a burning passion. I really wanna take the writers and hurt them. DAMN YOU DAMN YOU DAMN YOU ALL It wasn’t fair, it was totally unexpected and it pissed ME OFF. With all the talk of changes in the show for next season, god knows this was not the way for this season to end. OK, it caught me totally by surprise, I admit it. A person much smarter than I once said Art must create an emotion in the viewer. The better the art the more intense the emotion. This, fellas and girls, was great art. Read More »

The Power of Whimsy

At 5 am this morning I was sipping my morning coffee and hit the dvr to watch lasts nights installment of Eli Stone. For the next 42 minutes I sat there transfixed, watching what I fear will be the most serious casualty of this season. People screamed for the Firefly movie, when Fox unceremoniously dumped them after showing them no respect. The fans were up in arms to force ABC to bring closure to Jericho, and got their way, and are still whining like babies for more. As I watched the second to last installment of this fragile creation, my heart sank, fearing that when the new season comes around, this will be shoved outside to whither and die. And, it’s so wrong. Jericho, Dead, Sarah Conner, Alive and Kicking

I am noticing the number of posts about death lately; Arthur C. Clarke, F, Marry, Kill and Star Trek Caskets. And yet, here I am again reveling in MY predicted demise of Jericho. Well, not so much reveling as the sage nod of the bald head with a softly spoken “It was pre-ordained”. I mean, lets face reality. It was brought back by a loud persistent fan base for the expressed purpose of giving the story some closure. Well, in a 7 episode story arc, they did just that. Maybe not to everyone’s satisfaction, but it was a credible job and nothing for anyone to be ashamed of. I must admit I was ready to let it go, but whenever the fan base is rabid enough to make a network jump, I applaud. Read More »

Arthur C. Clarke is dead, alas. Let’s all get together and kick some ass

The title is stolen from the sub title of a novel about Philip K. Dick, but I thought it fitting when I saw the news. In retrospect, I am kinda sick about yesterdays post. At 90 years of age, Mr. Clarke was a visionary from the Golden Age of Science Fiction. Retaining a childlike sense of wonder for the future combined with a hunger for the science of the present, Clarke was a GrandMaster in every sense of the word. Read More »

“And when I die, and when I’m gone……..”

Ok this is not about a new show not being renewed, or an old show resurrection. This is the story of what we do when we are released from our mortal coil…..or whatever that means. I know people , who shall remain nameless, who, for whatever reason, are taking their fandom with them when they pass on. All jokes about being buried in a KISS Casket or wearing a Bubba Army tee shirt kinda pale in comparison when you look at this: Read More »

F, Marry, Kill: Eli Stone, Jericho or Knight Rider.

OK, so by the title, you can tell I listen to Howard Stern, probably a lot more than I should, but this is a semantic game in which given 3 options and 3 people/places/things, one is forced not to equivocate but simply list which action you would perform on whom. For this little experiment I have chosen 3 series that are in the bubble for next season, (barring a SAG strike, in which case all bets are off), and 3 options: Read More »
