MovieWatch – Tron Legacy

A lot has been written about this long awaited sequel, much of it negative, some of it by me. Here’s why:

In this day and age, with so much raw material to glean from, why are we remaking/sequeling (is that even a word?) what was at best a 1982 B movie that attempted to be a proof of technology for computer generated movies and fizzled miserably. Lord knows they tried, and in trying set a stage for things to come. It was nominated for 2 Academy Awards (Sound and Costume) but didn’t make the cut. Why?

Jim Cameron. That’s right, Jim Cameron. When the concept for Avatar was first hatching for him, he understood that technology had to catch up with him in order to make it work. In doing so, he made the film he really wanted to. Tron Legacy is finally at a place where the visuals can do justice to the story  The plan is a triple release, Digital, Digital 3D and IMAX 3D. Based on the script, cast and leaked photos, I am willing to give this a try

Cast: Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Bruce Boxleitner, James Frain, Beau Garrett and Michael Sheen. Release date 12/17/10.

This Dome, sayin’: Wait for it, and it will come.
