We here at Sci Fi Saturday Night have exciting news to share! During tonight’s interview, friend of the show Doug Jones revealed that he signed a contract today for a regular role on Falling Skies. Going to cons is fun for a bunch of reasons. You get to reconnect with artists, writers, collectors and fans you may not have seen since last year; but often times you also find something or someone new.  I was introduced to Curt McDermott at Granite State Comic Con. He is one of the new wave of young writers who is doing horror stories (as well as writing his first novel and producing his own comic). These days writers seem to be doing it all. Curt McDermott is a high school English teacher and lover of ghost stories, comic books, and the Oxford comma. He and his wife live in New Hampshire with a dog and several ducks.  You can see more of his work here.

Alphas Season 2

SyFy has a some amazing quality programming on their hands, and one of the shining stars thus far is Alphas. Season 1 followed the main characters’ journey from squabbling individuals to a working group of super humans staying hidden in plain sight. There are still flaws and mysteries for them to work out, but the battle to be the alpha Alpha has been overshadowed by greater challenges.  Season 1 ended with Dr. Rosen’s public revelation of Alphas existence and Season 2 will explore the ramifications of his actions, not just on the team but on government and society.

The scripting has been terse and explosive so far, and the show was an immediate hit for SyFy, becoming the most-watched original series on the channel. Season Two will bring in amazing guest stars such as C. Thomas Howell, Lauren Holly, Summer Glau, and Sean Astin. Original drama well crafted on SyFy is truly something to enjoy. Don’t miss this.

Alphas airs Mondays, starting on July 23, at 10pm on SyFy. Check the video for a sneak peek:
