The New Televison Season and Science Fiction Part 1

Todays Installment- TORCHWOOD, The show too hot for America !

Thank god for BBC America. If not for this amazing cable channel, we would be missing Hotel Babylon and ,,,,ummmmm…..no…. forget that,,,,, what I meant to say was Torchwood, the show that The X Files should have been, the show that is full of aliens and sex and spaceships and sex and missing persons and sex……lets face it, there is a smoldering undertone of sex……and OH MY GOODNESS is it refreshing!

Run by Capt Jack Harkness, whom I can guess is about 4000 years old or so, Torchwood is the repository for alien artifacts and all things alien, not the least of which are the team members:
Toshiko Sato- Resident Computer babe.
Ianto Jones- Receptionist and “Cleaner”.
Owen Harper- Genius with no manners.
Suzie Costello- Second in Command and Hardware Specialist.
and last but certainly least,

Gwen Cooper- Former Cop

Not to be disparaging about Gwen, but as the voice of humanity in an alien world, she sometimes comes off a a bit of a child whose candy has just been stolen.

That being said, this program is one NOT TO BE MISSED, regardless of how off putting some of the language, situations and sexuality may bother you.
My hope is that BBC America will air these unedited, or UNsanitized for your protection. Anything less will be futility.
Watch it, and let me know what you think.

A New Begining For Sci Fi Saturday Night?

As this has become my persoanl blog, I wanted to take this time to comment on a few things.

Mr K, Illustrator X and I have been working over the past few months on bringing SFSN back to the airwaves of New England. While we have been met with some kindness and support, it has been difficult to keep spirits up, and while we 3 are all worling on seperate projects at the moment, there has been some positive momentum on the part of a Major Radio Outlent in New Hampshire. More on this to come.

Dru and I were at the Granite State Comicon this past weekend. Despite the horrible weather, The Men from Double Midnight Comics did a wonderful job. More on who we saw and talked to later this week. BUT I must say I did pick up an amazingly beautiful Harley Quinn (Feel free to send me your favorite HQ’s) Illustration. More on that soon.

Been viewing the season 3 New Doctor Who. Amazing. More on this soon.

To paraphrase Monty Python, No, we’re not dead yet !

Sci Fi Saturday Night and WGIR Manchester part ways.

In a press release earlier this morning, it was announced that SCIFICO and WGIR were unable to come to terms on a second season of Sci Fi Saturday Night. More information will be forthcoming.

Announcement

Brian Belanger has mysteriously disappeared. If anyone has information regarding his whereabouts, please contact SFSN immediately. In the meantime, Illustrator X will be taking over his duties here.

Podcast #8: They stare at…. Goats?

This 2005 interview with Jon Ronson concerned his book The Men Who Stare at Goats. Alternately creepy and hilarious, this book is the story of a super-secret branch of The US Military which attempt all kinds of paranormal experiments. From “remote viewing” and walking through walls to literally staring goats to death. The book is somtimes impossible to believe and other times just plain scary. We spoke with Jon from his flat outside London, where he resides.

Podcasts #5: Two Comic Guys

The Granite State ComiCon is the largest comic and artist convention north of Boston. Chris Proulx from Double Midnight Comics in Manchester, New Hampshire is the force behind these events. On our show, just prior to the event in 2005, we were fortunate to have Jamal Igle from DC Comics and Mitch Breitweiser from Marvel Comics. Jamal Igle Is a popular comic book artist who has worked his way up the ranks from Intern at DC Comics to his current successful penciling career. Over the years Jamal has been editor, art director and animation storyboard artist.Marvel Comics is exceedingly proud to announce that they have signed artist Mitchell Breitweiser to an exclusive contract.Though his name may not be immediately recognizable to many comic fans, Breitweiser is currently working on Marvel’s much-anticipated DRAX THE DESTROYER series with legendary high-profile writer Keith Giffen. Readers may previously be familiar with the artist’s unique delineations on AGENT X, NOBEL CAUSES, and his creator-owned project for Image, PHANTOM JACK (alongside writer and co-creator Mike San Giacomo. This is Part 1 of a free wheeling conversation we had with them both.
