In a mostly underwhelming summer of film, pockmarked with the occasional Inception and Strutting Leo Internet Meme, there are two blips on the radar that should be of interest to the Sci-Fi and Fantasy community.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Book optioned by Tim Burton (Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride) and Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch). Pre-production has begun with Burton producing and Bekmambetov directing. For those unfamiliar, Abe’s mom is killed by vampires and the Civil War is a thinly disguised vampire hunt.
Snow White and the Huntsman
This reimagining written by Evan Daughetry and produced by Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland). Currently attached to direct is Rupert Sanders (The Hunger Games) This version, one of four currently in pre-production, is not to be confused with the Disney reboot. Entitled Snow White and the 7, the Fair Maiden is within the world of The Shaolin Monks, who train the hapless heroine to fight evil.
