In the past few years we have been subjected to reboot television shows and movies of old franchises (and in some cases just characters) and it is rare when it proves to meet the level of its original. The Superman reboot leaps to mind, and the list continues with Knight Rider<\/em>, Charlie\u2019s Angels<\/em>, \u00a0Transformers<\/em>, Land of the Lost<\/em>\u2026ad nauseaum. \u00a0For every 10 things, there are gems as well Firefly\/Serenity<\/em> and its latest incarnation Browncoats<\/em> (more to come about them on our podcast this weekend) or Battlestar Galactica\/Caprica<\/em>. So it is literally a crapshoot to find the gems among the–for lack of a better term–pile.<\/p>\n

All of which brings me to this weeks rant, the impending reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. In many ways this could be a good idea. Joss gets back into movies binging back \u201chis\u201d iconic Buffy Summers and the Scooby Crew, perhaps Faith returns, Cordelia. No, this isn\u2019t what Hollyweird wanted to do. Setting the WayBack Machine for stun, Hollywierd went to the movie, with Kristy Swanson and Donald Sutherland and said THIS IS THE REBOOT WE WANT, and by \u201cwe\u201d one can only infer they meant the viewing public.<\/p>\n

Well, the Scooby Crew has commented on this in a unified \u201cno\u201d, from Anthony Stewart Head, Allyson Hannigan, Sarah Michelle Gellar and, the latest to comment, Amber Benson. To a person,\u00a0 so far there has been a \u201cmeh\u201d to the idea and it deserves nothing more than that. The original movie was mediocre at best and some of the plot points were downright ridiculous: not glittery vampire ridiculous, but damn close. Even though Joss Weadon was listed as writer of the movie, it wasn\u2019t until he wrested creative control in the TV series he was able to make his vision complete, thus creating the Buffyverse we have come to know and love.<\/p>\n

This is Dome, sayin: \u2018till Willow and Tara are back, it ain\u2019t really Buffy.<\/p>\n
