{"id":425,"date":"2009-11-20T13:51:07","date_gmt":"2009-11-20T18:51:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scifisaturdaynight.com\/?p=425"},"modified":"2009-11-20T13:51:38","modified_gmt":"2009-11-20T18:51:38","slug":"rip-boneyard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/scifisaturdaynight.com\/?p=425","title":{"rendered":"RIP Boneyard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There&#8217;s a lot of great comics series wrapping up right now.\u00a0 <em>Rex Mundi<\/em>, an alternate-history look at the Rennes-le-Chateau mystery that puts Dan Brown to shame.\u00a0 <em>Ex Machina<\/em>,\u00a0where a would-be superhero, knowing that with great\u00a0power comes great responsibility, uses his powers to run for public office.\u00a0 And now, <strong>Boneyard<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<strong>Boneyard<\/strong>, for those of you who didn&#8217;t know, was a great comedy-adventure indie series by Richard Moore.\u00a0 The premise was simple:\u00a0 Michael Paris inherits a cemetery, and by default, all its Nightmare Before Christmas-type residents.\u00a0\u00a0Mayhem ensues.\u00a0 Think Berke Breathed and Phil Foglio collaborating on <em>Dark Shadows<\/em>, with all the quirkiness and heart they could muster, and you&#8217;ll get the idea.\u00a0 It was well-written, very well-drawn and funny\u00a0as all hell.\u00a0 And since it was an independent series that had nothing to do with superheroes, it&#8217;s gone.\u00a0 As Richard Moore himself says in the final issue, &#8220;As one grows older, romantic phrases like &#8216;labor of love&#8217; begin to seem slightly less important than &#8216;I&#8217;d like to eat tonight'&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>As someone who lost a few grand himself publishing his own indie series, I wholeheartedly sympathize with you, Mr. Moore.\u00a0 All I can offer are my sincerest thanks and praise for a great series that I will truly miss.\u00a0 Hopefully, these\u00a0original, endearing\u00a0characters &#8212; Abbey, Michael, Nessie, Brutus, Glump, etc. &#8212; will someday return and your story can have the ending it deserved.\u00a0 Until then, I urge our readers to discover <strong>Boneyard<\/strong> for themselves.\u00a0 NBM Publishing has collected the entire series in trade paperbacks, reasonably priced for your holiday budget.\u00a0 You can order them direct from the publisher at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbmpublishing.com\/\">www.nbmpublishing.com<\/a>, or wherever finer comic books are sold.\u00a0 And if your local store doesn&#8217;t stock them, well&#8230;
