\"\"<\/a>So in light of our latest podcast, it was brought to my attention that I have tastes that might…deviate from the norm.\u00a0 No, I’m not talking about Wonder Woman<\/a> and how I think her suit<\/a> is SO AWESOME (it’s not), but specifically American Gods<\/a><\/em>\"\" by Neil Gaiman.\u00a0 That’s right, Kriana, I thought that book was the bomb.\u00a0 In fact, I want to read it again right now, I thought it was so good.\u00a0 But apparently, I’m in the minority!

\nAnd that’s okay.\u00a0 Everyone’s entitled to their tastes.\u00a0 It’s not like there’s tons of people who don’t share my love of Gods<\/em> so I don’t really feel that alone.\u00a0 It’s when I am maybe one of five or six people who actively LOVE or HATE something that I start to get nervous and start asking myself if I’m the only sane person out there.<\/p>\n

For reference, Slither<\/em><\/a>: Wow people, I thought FOR SURE that I would love this movie.\u00a0 Nathan Fillion?\u00a0 Check.\u00a0 Comedy horror?\u00a0 Check (LOVE Evil Dead<\/em>).\u00a0 Cult status?\u00a0 Checkity check check!\u00a0 However, I left the theater wishing I’d left earlier so I could have gotten my money back.\u00a0 When people gushed over Slither<\/em>, I literally thought we were talking about two different movies.\u00a0 I don’t think I laughed the entire film, and it WAS\u00a0 cheesy but not in a good way.\u00a0 I don’t know if it’s because I was never really into the 80’s horror scene or if there is a piece of my brain that never developed properly to love this movie the way so many of my friends did, but I was just so disappointed.\u00a0 In the end, I thought it was pretty boring.<\/p>\n

But on the other side.\u00a0 Oh man, I have a big secret guys.\u00a0 There’s something I love…something I watched that when I saw it I thought it was just great.\u00a0 The best, totally worth my time.\u00a0 And I was reminded of just how I am in the minority about this by last week’s podcast.\u00a0 So here goes:<\/p>\n

I thought The Postman<\/em><\/a> was a good film.<\/p>\n

There I said it.\u00a0 I even got a little teary eyed at the end when they had a statue of him erected.\u00a0 I seriously felt good after watching it.\u00a0 Maybe it’s because I really like post-apocalyptic scenarios and seeing people make the best of things when times are toughest.\u00a0 Maybe it’s because I hate the mail system and my mail-person needs to realize they have TWO jobs (delivering AND TAKING my mail.\u00a0 TAKE MY BILLS PLEASE OMFG).\u00a0 So it’s nice, heartwarming even, to see someone give a crap about my letters.\u00a0 And I have a soft spot in my chest cavity for reluctant heroes and ego maniacal villains too.<\/p>\n

I’m not going to say that it’s the most amazing movie ever made, I guess I just don’t see what everyone is complaining about.\u00a0 It’s not like the acting was horrendous or that the movie wasn’t actually funny at the time, but even my husband was complaining that he was going to start seizing if I made him watch any more of it (yes, I watched it again last night, for reference, and I haven’t changed my mind).\u00a0 Sometimes I feel like I’m in the story “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and I’m the boy shouting that he’s naked, only I’m the person trying to convince people this movie doesn’t suck.<\/p>\n

In the end, it doesn’t really matter though.\u00a0 We all like and dislike stuff that may be different than the masses.\u00a0 Sometimes that’s what makes us who we are as individuals!\u00a0 For me, most of the time I will resist the status quo out of some misguided sense of snobbery, only to reverse my position at the last possible moment (Avatar: The Last Airbender<\/em><\/a> tv show comes to mind…).\u00a0 I’d be interested to see what all of YOU think, what you guys consider to be your alternative tastes.<\/p>\n

Final word: I also believe Babylon 5 to be a hojillion times better than Star Trek.\u00a0 *ducks out as people start throwing rotten tomatoes*<\/p>\n
