According to a number of blogs and media writers, NBC is in free fall and grasping at straws for ways to fix their ratings. Let\u2019s face it, the debacle that is the Jay Leno Show and its ramifications has cost the network millions. At least that\u2019s the whining being heard virtually everywhere, and it\u2019s a lie. The real fact is that with the various media outlets available, viewership of the 3 \u00bd major networks has plummeted. \u00a0Furthermore, when it comes to Sci Fi programming, there is so much available that total viewership for any one segment has gone down, but that may not be necessarily so. NBC has problems with Heroes, which has bottomed out, ratingswise., but there is nothing worthwhile to replace it with. More importantly, NBC has taken the surprising step of canceling shows before they even air (Southland). One of the more, actually less controversial comments around NBC is that they might bring Chuck back before the New Year. Some are even saying before the end of the month. This might mean more than the 13 episodes ordered thus far. Other Sci Fi shows are tanking as well, including Fringe and Dollhouse: tanking in respect to what the networks are hoping for, but realistically maintaining and audience in a state of overwhelming choices and diminishing time in a bad economy.<\/p>\n
While network ratings are in freefall, the suggestion I have for them is to keep what\u2019s working and let their audiences grow, but it will take time.<\/p>\n
