From the Bad Astronomy Blog:\u00a0<\/a>“Jeff Peckman stood before the citizens of Denver and\u00a0showed the video<\/a>. What it had on it we don\u2019t know, because he would only allow certain members of the press to see it, and no video of\u00a0his<\/em>\u00a0video was allowed to be taken. Evidently, Peckman is part of the Bush Administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Anyway, his video was supposed to show an alien looking in a bedroom window. He said it would have cost thousands of dollars and take a Hollywood studio to fake it. However, members of the\u00a0Rocky Mountain Paranormal Society<\/a>\u00a0were able\u00a0to create a fake video<\/a>\u00a0in a few hours and for under $100, which looks “slightly more animated” than the real thing. That\u2019s according to someone who saw both, writing for the Rocky Mountain News (link above).<\/p>\n

The fake video is all over YouTube already, and of course\u00a0some people<\/a>\u00a0are claiming it\u2019s the real thing. It\u2019s not. […]<\/p>\n

Now go to YouTube and\u00a0watch the footage people are claiming is the real thing<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Oops. It\u2019s the known hoax.<\/p>\n

So where are we? We have a video few people have seen, a claim it couldn\u2019t be easily faked, proof it\u00a0could<\/em>\u00a0be easily faked, and the fake video being claimed as the real one on the \u2018net.<\/p>\n

The dumbosity of this is climbing faster than even I thought it could. One thing is clear to me, though: Jeff Peckman is very, very good at wasting peoples\u2019 time. And people are only too too happy to throw it at him.”<\/p>\n
