Torchwood: Miracle Day

Here is a first look sneak peek at the upcoming season. Torchwood has had an amazing under-the-radar run. The continuing story of Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper began with a 13 episode Season 1 in 2006, and continued a second season of 13 episodes in 2007. Finally came the the love-it-or-hate-it, 5 episode, mini series, Children of Earth in 2009. Then, limbo ensued after one of the highest rated mini-series the Beeb ever ran. It was an uncertain future, and for over a year the project of a possible Season 4 was the stuff of fanboy rumors worldwide.

And now, after so long a wait and countless questions and rumors, Miracle Day is almost upon us. The planted stories and not-so-subtle hints abound on all the social media and I am NOT Immune. Expectations across fandom run from feigned disinterest to barely contained exuberance.

I stand firmly in the path of BRING IT THE HELL ON!  This is a show that is so sure of its storytelling skills that it killed off all but two of its main characters by the end of Season 3. It is brave enough to take on taboos and put them in the crosshairs of the characters: Existentialism, Gender Assignment and Equity, Religion, Moral Corruption, and in Miracle Day, The Value of The Human Life.

Love it or hate it, this is a series not to be missed, and I stand firm for the return of Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper. Watch, comment, let us know what you think

Returning characters Jack and Gwen are joined on this 10 episode arc/series by such luminaries as Oswald Danes (Bill Pullman), Jilly Kitzinger (Lauren Ambrose) and Esther Drummond (Alexa Havins). The story unfolds as all across the world: nobody dies; they age, they get sick, they get hurt, but they don’t die. Man realizes resources are finite and this event is not natural, The CIA seeks answers with an agency of legend, Torchwood. The series begins on July 8th. on STARZ in the US.

British shows are much less wary of killing off main characters than American shows are I have noticed
