Watson, come here. I want you.

Rutter, Trebek, Jennings via IBM

Famous words spoken by Thomas Alva Edison carry a whole new meaning next week as Watson, the IBM computing system, will compete over 3 consecutive days against Brad Rutter and Ken Jennings. Each of the human contestants will donate 50% of their earnings to charity and IBM will donate all of Watson’s winning. The winner will earn $ 1 Million. Brad Rutter will donate his share to the Lancaster County Community Foundation, Ken Jennings will give to his designated charity, VillageReach, and Watson will split his winnings between World Vision and World Community Grid. Watson has been preparing for this event since his inception in 2007. There are few venues that attach winning to not just knowledge but speed and an innate understanding of colloquial natural language but also an understanding of irony and complex riddles which makes this a particularly daunting challenge for a non-human like Watson.

The competition will air on February 14, 15 and 16 in syndication across the US.

After the break, a new video.
